The Department of Budget, Planning and Statistics of Lagos Island Local Government serves as the central
unit responsible for strategic planning, fiscal coordination, and data management within the local
government. The department plays a critical role in ensuring that government policies, programs, and
projects are properly planned, effectively implemented, and aligned with the overall development goals
of the Local Government.
Our Mandate
To coordinate the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of the Council's annual budget; formulate
short-term and long-term development plans; provide reliable statistical data that guides evidence-based
decision-making; and ensure that Lagos Island Local Government operates within a structured, data-driven,
and financially disciplined framework — aligned with the Lagos State development agenda and international
public financial management standards.
Core Functions
1. Budget Preparation and Coordination
The department is primarily responsible for the preparation and coordination of the annual budget of
the Local Government. It works closely with all departments and units to collate, review, and harmonise
budget proposals, ensuring that available resources are allocated efficiently and in line with government
priorities. It also monitors budget performance, tracks expenditure, and ensures compliance with approved
financial plans.

of the people. The department also evaluates ongoing and completed projects to ensure value for money and
effective service delivery.

3. Statistical Data Collection and Analysis
The Statistics unit within the department is responsible for data collection, analysis, and management.

service delivery metrics that are essential for planning and policy formulation.
